More Good News about Music Works!

MusicWorks Has Secured Grant Funding for Music Therapy at Child Guidance Resource Centers After School Program

(Havertown, PA) – MusicWorks has secured grant funding to provide music therapy services for Child Guidance Resource Centers (CGRC) After School Program.  Lori O’Leary, Executive Director of MusicWorks, announced that “Grants have been received from The Ethel Sergeant Clark Smith Memorial Fund and The Kistler-Tiffany Foundation to ensure the continuation of music therapy sessions provided by MusicWorks.  Our Board Certified Music Therapists are thrilled to be working at CGRC’s After School Program (ASP).”  ASP is designed for children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders and focuses on developmental and social skills.  The program is open to children ages 5-21.  MusicWorks has been providing weekly, 30-minute sessions of music therapy for the CGRC students since September.

Music therapy has been an invaluable attribute to the ASP curriculum and the students’ development.  Patrick Rowley, ASP Director, notes, “MusicWorks provides the children in the ASP another outlet to express themselves verbally and artistically in a positive manner.  Through the program, the children can release frustration, excitement, and many other emotions through their obvious passion and enjoyment of music.”

MusicWorks music therapists work on learning and communication, focus and attention, fine and gross motor skills and socialization through the use of music.  Kathleen Esbensen, MT-BC, Music Therapist at MusicWorks, indicates “The children respond so positively to music therapy intervention.  It is a joy to watch them grow through music on a weekly basis.  Their success is our success!”

MusicWorks and CGRC, conveniently located less than a block from one another, have had an ongoing partnership since 2009.  MusicWorks has provided services for CGRC’s Summer Therapeutic Activities Program and now expands services to the ASP students.

MusicWorks provides music therapy services to restore, improve and maintain the quality of life of all individuals throughout the Delaware Valley who are challenged by autism, special needs, illness or aging.  Based in Havertown, Pennsylvania, MusicWorks services over 500 clients weekly in home, in schools and at their new treatment facility.

Child Guidance Resource Centers is a community-based, behavioral healthcare organization with headquarters in Havertown, Pennsylvania.  With offices throughout the Delaware, Chester and Montgomery counties and the State of Delaware, CGRC provides therapeutic, supportive, and preventive behavioral healthcare services that assess, treat and empower children, adolescents and families with behavioral health, developmental disabilities, or residential care needs. In 2011, CGRC served over 6,000 clients.

January Meeting Invitation - Thursday, January 19th @ 7:30 - Support Group Discussion Topic - Acceptance

You are invited to attend our next meeting which will be held on Thursday, January 19th @ 7:30 p.m.

Support Group Meeting Topic:

ACCEPTANCE

Do you remember when you first realized that your child was disabled?  For some of you, it may have been evident at birth.  For others like myself, it was a gradual realization that you could no longer deny.  Accepting that fact that your child has special needs is a painful process. Daily acceptance is something that we often find difficult; however, many of us have found ways to find joy in each day with our children who often inspire and motivate us to become better parents.

We invite you to come and talk about your experience, difficulty, challenges, strength and hope with other parents who are traveling a similar journey.

My 5 year-old daughter, Meghan Kelly, has Developmental Delays due to a genetic deletion (Chromosome 16 has 12 genes missing)  She is the joy of our lives!

Location:

Cardinal Kroll Center @

Don Guanella Village

1799 S. Sproul Road
