Stress Reduction through Yoga for Parents of Children With Special Needs
Featuring Instructor Victoria Aslan (Vimukti)

Living in today’s world puts us in a lot of stress. Having the added pressure of being the parent of a special needs child makes daily life that much more demanding. At this meeting you will learn some simple principles that you can incorporate into your daily life to help you to relax and be less stressed.

Yoga, for centuries, has been proven to help with stress, health, immunity and longevity.
Some of the proven health benefits of yoga and meditation include:

Meditation is the most direct of all stress management-training exercises, since stress begins in the mind. The aim is not to sit, but to function more effectively throughout your day.

Gives the body a deeper rest than sleep.

Heart and respiratory rate, blood pressure is decreased; cholesterol levels fall.

Decreased acid and pepsin secretions are found in the stomach, helping to protect against ulcers.

Biochemical change: Natural pain-killers, the endorphins and enkephalins, are increased, along with the neurotransmitter serotonin.

Yoga keeps the spine supple, the protection for a healthy, easeful body.

Breathing practices (pranayama) calm, clear and focus the mind.

Integral Yoga® was exported to the U.S. through Swami Satchidananda, disciple of Swami Sivananda of Rishikesh, India and has grown with branches worldwide. Swami Satchidananda was the guru to the stars, opening the Woodstock Festival in 1969. He taught the Baby Boomers to chant om, and over the years has attracted thousands of students.
